Things I forgot and really meant to put on here!

I forgot to put some important things on here... doesn't mean I don't love you guys!

Tim Watkins had a gator accident (of the 4 wheeler variety) on Christmas day and broke one of his legs. He had surgery to have pins and plates put in. He came home from the hospital on Tuesday, but he will have a very long recovery time. Hugs to Tim and his family!

Also, H G Miles (Sandee Edwards daddy) has been in the hospital off and on for the past week and a half. He is currently in Crawford Long/Emory in Atlanta waiting for news on his lungs. Please be in prayer for him and his family!

Also... quick correction! We attended church together with Carl and Jeri Moore in FAYETTEVILLE not Wedowee as I posted earlier. I'm a goober sometimes! Carl had surgery on his arm yesterday to reset the bones and place pins and plates, they also reset the bones in one of his feet. His other foot is too swollen to work on for now so he will be in the hospital (Piedmont Newnan room 311) for 7 - 10 more days. Prayers for comfort and patience.

Well, Well... I guess I have taken enough time off for the last couple of weeks. This Christmas was more hectic than usual for me. RCHS basketball kept us in the road a good bit. I love it though and wouldn't have it any other way!

Congratulations to the RCHS boys and girls for having good turnouts in several Christmas Tournys. Both teams have played hard and had really good results! I am so proud of them! They resume their regular schedule on Monday 01/04 in Ohatchee at 4:30, Tuesday 01/05 in Wadley at 4:00 and then Friday 01/08 at home VS Woodland starting at 5:00! Come on out and support those Tigers and Lady Tigers!!!!! At least come for the home game on Friday!!!! Go Tigers!

Charlie Boone has returned home from Opelika and a knee replacement surgery. Brenda reports that he is doing well! Hugs to him (and Brenda) throughout his PT!

Our neighbor here in Wedowee, Carl Moore, (this is their second home) was on his way back to Newnan yesterday and had a head on collision just east of Franklin. We have known Carl and his wife Jeri for a very long time... they attended the same church with us in Wedowee. He has a shattered arm (in surgery right this minute), a broken left heel, all of the small bones in his right foot are broken. Praise the Lord for nooooooo internal injuries!!!! He is blessed! Prayers and hugs going out to him, his sweet wife Jeri, and his daughter and her family.

With sadness I must let you know that Mr. Earl Vaughn passed away early yesterday. He was the stepfather of Lavenia Swann.

The Arrangements:
Visitation tonight from 5 - 8 pm at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke
Services are tomorrow at 2 pm at Trinity Baptist Church in Roanoke

Wedowee Middle School PTO is still selling cases of toilet paper for $35. The cases contain 96 rolls for $35 which equals .36 a roll. It's a great deal!. They have 93 cases to sell out of our second shipment. Help make it a Merry Christmas at the Middle School and purchase one or more cases. You can email Marty Kirby at martykirby01@gmail.com or call her at 256-610-1738. She will be glad to deliver. The students and faculty at Wedowee Middle School are very grateful!!

Speaking of Wedowee Middle School... The December meeting for the Randolph County Board of Education will be held Monday, December 14th at Wedowee Middle School. RCBOE is rotating where they hold their monthly meetings. PLEASE come out and support our local schools!!! We need parent participation! Even if you don't have a child at Wedowee Middle School (I am sure you have one in the RCBOE system or know a little freckle faced kid who is!), this is a meeting for the ENTIRE SCHOOL SYSTEM, not just WMS - the middle school is just the location. Come out and show RCBOE that the parents in Wedowee care about our kids!!!!

Depression is very prevalent this time of year... Pray for all of our friends who are experiencing difficult times right now!

Please be praying this week for little Miss Bella Creed. She is having further bone marrow testing next Tuesday. Miracles happen, especially when all of God's people cry out. If there are no changes she should begin chemotherapy after the beginning of the New Year. She is so tiny and delicate that the docs will be taking extra precautions with her and she will be hospitalized for about 4 days after every treatment. Prayers and Hugs to this precious baby girl. When I say baby, I mean baby. She won't even be 1 yr old until 02/28/10.

The DANCE CENTER on Main's Performance Company will present the second annual Christmas Show " We Need a Little Christmas" Friday December 11, 2009 @ 7:00 p.m. at Southern Union State Community College, Brazeal Auditorium. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased at the Dance Center.

RCHS NEWS:
The RCHS JV basketball teams will play Clay County in Ashland on Thursday with games starting at 6:00.

Thursday, December 10th is the deadline for the Miss Randolph County Pageant. If you need an application pick up one in the high school office or see Ms. Robyn Wortham.

CHRISTMAS BREAK!!!!! School will dismiss at 12:30 on Friday, Dec 18th - car riders will be picked up at 12:15....middle school will probably dismiss about 12:20.

Please keep the following families in prayer as they go through some tough changes and recoveries... Mr. Guy Dunavant is moving to the VA Home this week. I am sure this will be a difficult transition for all involved. Ms. Mary White is in the hospital really sick. Pray for a speedy recovery for her. Ms. June Thackston had back surgery yesterday. Her back was broken in a car accident in April and it is not healing properly. She is also going through some pretty serious personal issues. She is keeping the faith in God that he will provide. Pray for peace, good health, and resolved personal issues. There have been several deaths recently in our community. Pray for the families as they deal with the grief in a difficult time of year.

There will be a Key Club meeting this Thursday at break in Mrs. Robertson’s room (Room 122).

There will not be a PTO meeting in December.

Beta Club new member induction will be postponed until the February PTO meeting because of a conflict with the Christmas play. Details will be announced closer to the date.

The Alabama High School Graduation Exam will be next week December 7th-11th. Monday-Reading, Tuesday-Language, Wednesday-Social Studies, Thursday-Science/Biology and Friday-Math. All students taking the math portion of the AHSGE must participate in the calculator practice session which will be held this Wednesday, December 2nd during 2nd period in Mrs. Pate’s classroom (Room 114). All students must come to school next week during the AHSGE – there will not be any excused absences from attending school for the AHSGE.

The senior trip to Southern Union this Friday has been cancelled due to the graduation exam next week.

The basketball teams will play Wadley today at home. Games will start at 4:00 pm. Come out and support the Tigers!!

A special prayer request from Robin Prestridge...

I just found out this morning that a friends wife passed away Saturday. Her name was Tracy McMahon wife of Michael. News from another friend let me know that she suffered a seizure in the bathtub and drowned. She was 35 and had no children. Her service will be tomorrow in Gadsden. Please keep her family in your prayers. I haven't seen Michael in years. I know this is a difficult time especially right here at Thanksgiving. I can't imagine losing someone during a time when we have so much to be thankful for.

With great sadness I want to let you all know of the passing of a sweet man...

Mr. Frank Edgar, Sr passed away at 3:17 this morning. He is the husband of Ellie and the brother in law of Glenda Chisholm, and great uncle of Kayla, Tiffany, and John Cole but was more like their grandfather.

Visitation will be at Benefield's Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00-9:00

Funeral will be at First Baptist Church in Wedowee at 11:00 on
Saturday, November 21st.

With sadness I need to inform you all that Mr. Larry Colley passed away yesterday. Mr. Colley was married to Barbara, was active in First Baptist and father to Julie Thompson (who works at Bank of Wedowee). He served as Game Warden and also Sheriff of Randolph County. He and Mrs. Colley reside in Valley now, but were long time residents of Randolph County. I don't know his arrangements right now, his family was meeting this morning. Keep this sweet family in your prayers.

A friend of Robin Prestridge (a guy she went to high school with) has a 9 month old son, Joshua Vincent, that was just diagnosed with cancer. He is in Children's in B'ham . Mr. Bernard Austin passed away yesterday morning. Please keep Mrs. Janie and Veronica in your prayers. Visitation was today at 4:00pm, with his services being tomorrow at UMC at 2:00pm.

The Builders and Key Clubs of RCHS are selling ornaments that will be placed on the wreaths in the Wreaths Across America ceremony on 12/12/09. The wreaths will remain at Ft. Mitchell until January. The cost for each wreath is $5.00. You can specify the branch of service where you want the ornament placed. A name, title, message, in honor, in memory, etc. The money will further the cause for WAA and help pay for the transportation for the students to the event. Prayers and hugs go out to Earl Vaughn. He is the stepfather of Lavenia Swann. He was diagnosed today with terminal, fast spreading cancer. He is in East Alabama in Opelika. The doctors don't believe that chemo will be helpful, but will try radiation. Please pray for this sweet family.

Sierra Duke, the 11 yo daughter of April Duke (the PTO president at RCHS Elementary) is in the hospital in Birmingham battling pneumonia. Please pray for this sweet little girl.

Baby Bella Creed went in for testing today. Her platelets levels have dropped so the docs are looking for the answer. No matter what, we know that God has the answers... Pray for this family.

Don't forget that there is no school tomorrow in honor of Veteran's Day. I am proud to have three Veteran's in my immediate family who have unselfishly served their country! Two in the Navy, My hubby Robby, and my father-in-law Don. My daddy was in the Army. Thank you to all of the veteran's out there. I really appreciate all you have done for my freedom.

Lathonia Wright collapsed during this morning's Commission Meeting. Per people on the scene he was unconscious and unresponsive. He was Life Flighted to UAB. Early word is that he has suffered from a ruptured aneurysm. This is all of the information I have right now... Please be in prayer for Mr. Wright.

Mrs. Highfield will be in rehab for 15 more days. She is in room 4222 at E/W Opelika.

Mini-Basketball Camp at RCHS!!!! The cost is $25 and each participant will receive a T-shirt. the camp will be held in the new gym at RCHS.

Please be in prayer for Larry Colley and his family. He is in pretty serious condition in the hospital. Hugs to you Mr. Colley.

Mrs. Frances Highfield is also in the hospital doing therapy after having knee surgery.

My momma is having cataract surgery today. She is excited!

I am so proud of our Tigers football team! They had a difficult year as far as wins go, but they are all winners in my book. Great job keeping a positive spirit and fighting through to the end. Blessings to all of the seniors! Best of luck in your college football endeavors!

The volleyball team have also wrapped up their season. They fought hard to make it to state, but were sadly edged out. Good job on a great year girls! AND... a shout out to my favorite volleyball player at woodland high school - Morgan Edwards! You always played with a great attitude and slammed a few balls too! I love you! =]

Now, get out there and support those mighty Tiger basketball teams! Tip off tournaments begin in a couple of weeks! The louder the fans are, the better the players play!

Mr. George Harrell... RCHS game rescheduled

With a heavy, heavy heart I need to inform all of you of the passing of a beloved member of our community.

Mr. George Harrell passed away this evening while in the hospital in Atlanta. There haven't been any arrangements made as of this posting, but I will let you know of details as soon as I find out.

Please pray for his whole family, but especially Mrs. Hariett and Taylor as they make plans and later have to adjust to a new normal.

Also, a brief note to let you know that the RCHS Varsity football game against Cedar Bluff that was originally scheduled for Friday night has been rescheduled to be played Thursday (due to weather forecasts) night at 7:00. AGAIN....The Friday night football game has been rescheduled for THURSDAY night! It is a home game.

RCHS will have a bonfire tonight at 7:00pm in the field house parking lot.

The spirit wear for tomorrow is "Turn the Bobcats Black and Blue". Wear Black and Blue or Black, or Blue to school and the game tomorrow night!!!

A few updates for you all...

Ronnie Yates dad, Junior, and aunt, Katherine, are both in Wedowee Hospital. When Katherine is released she will go to a nursing home. Please be in prayer for this sweet family.

There are a number of people who are fighting cancer. Pray for them to have full healing.

Lynn Brown was in the ER last night. She had some significant health problems over the summer, and not really sure everything that is going on now. Her daughter, Kasey, is a friend of my daughter's. She asked that we pray for her.

Also, Kim Norton is going through having some pretty serious mouth surgery. She had one last week, and I think she still has another to go. Man, when your mouth hurts, it makes your day go south! Pray for comfort for her.

RCHS News:

Report Cards will go out this week. Be on the lookout!

Today, the JV football team will play Woodland at home. The game begins at 6:30pm. Come out and support the JV team!

The Builder's Club and Key Club will participate (on September 30) in the Lake Wedowee Cleanup! T-shirts will be given and anyone is welcome to participate!

The deadline is October 9 for all girls who want to try out for JV Basketball. Sign up in Ms. Wortham's room.

Fall Festival is Saturday, October 3 beginning at 4:30. It is a fund-raiser for the entire school to help fund a lease on a copier. Come out and support this effort!

Volleyball game, Thursday, October 3 at 5:00pm. They are playing Ranburne High School at HOME. Get out there and support those Lady Tigers!

The Varsity Football Game is Friday, October 4 at 7:00pm AT Horseshoe Bend. We are going to "White Out the Generals" so wear a white t-shirt to school AND to the game Friday night! Help us "WHITE OUT THE GENERALS!".

RCHS Homecoming Reminders

The Homecoming festivities started out today with all students dressing in their class color.

Come out tonight for the Junior Varsity Football Game! The game is a home game at 6:30. These players and cheerleaders have also worked very hard, so come on out and support them!

Wednesday is "College Day" for the students. They need to wear their favorite teams jersy.

Thursday is "Multiplicity Day". Three or more students are to wear the same outfits.

Thursday is the day of the Homecoming Parade, it begins at 5:30. The community pep rally is also Thursday at 6:30 in front of NAPA.

Thursday there is a Volleyball game at 5:00 in Anniston - Varsity only.

Friday, September 11th is "Patriotic Day". Students are to wear red, white, and blue in remembrance of the victims of 09/11.

Also... Class Of '73 - There will be a special alumni section in the stands THIS FRIDAY for the Homecoming Game. Refreshments for this class at the home of David and Jane (Burns) Johnson.

Monday 09/14 there is a Varsity and JV Volleyball game in Ranburne at 4:30.

The Volleyball teams are selling tshirts for $12. See your favorite volleyball player to buy one... or more!

I have heard of several in our community who have had surgery this week. If you have any information on these friends, and know they would like to be on the prayer list, please let me know how they are doing.

We are presently in VA. My grandmother passed away this week, so we are out of pocket for a few days. She had a blessed life. Thanks for all of the prayers.

Volleyball game today at home. RCHS vs Handley 4:00pm. Admission $5.00

Varsity football game tomorrow at home. RCHS vs Winterboro 7:00pm. Admission $7.00

Midway United Methodist Church will host 5th Quarter after the Friday Nights football games for all students grades 7 - 12.

Balfour will be at the school on Tuesday, September 1st at 7:45 to take ring orders. You must bring a minimum of $60 for your deposit or you may pay in full at that time.

A+ fundraiser sales must be turned in by Wednesday, September 2nd.

Magazine money must be turned in by Tuesday, September 8th.

The PTO Yard Sale is Saturday, September 26th. Items can be donated the week before in the auditorium.

FBC Children's choir will start back up on Wednesday, September 9.

Third Annual Family Fun Day at French-Hammond Park is Sunday, September 6. The gates open at 3:00pm!

Key Club is hosting a fund raiser by collecting ink cartridges, pop tops, and old cell phones. Turn any of these things into any Key Club member, or drop them by RCHS for Mrs. Jennifer Robertson.

Fall pictures and Senior Picture makeup day is September 29.

Linda Stone had a heart attack today. Lucky for her, she was working her shift on the Hospital Auxillary in the clinic. She began to have the symptoms and the docs in the clinic sent her straight to the ER. She was life flighted to Piedmont Atlanta. She is currently in ICU, but she is stable and has requested something to eat. She will have a cath in the morning. Please be in prayer for this precious woman! (All of this info is from her friends).

For those of you who don't know her... she is active in the Hospital Auxillary, First Baptist Church, and sells Real Estate for ReMax Lakefront. They are originally from Fayetteville, Ga.

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of school! I have a couple of things today.

Please continue to pray for Allen Taylor and his family. Allen's cancer has returned. I don't know anything further, other than I am sure they need support and prayer.

My mom, Barbara Thomas, had a "precursor" to a heart attack last week. She had all of the symptoms, but made it to the hospital before anything further happened. She is on new meds (which have been causing some pretty severe headaches) and has a doc appt on Thursday for a potential stress test and cath. Please pray with us that they find out what is going on here.

Miss Brittney Banzhof had her wisdom teeth cut out yesterday. (The first day of school!) Pray that she has comfort in the next week. Morgan Edwards had hers taken out last week. Yikes! A little too much dental work for me... kinda made me have flashbacks! I hope these two girls heal nicely.

A special thank you shout out from Crucified Life Ministries (they sponsor children in El Salvador who need financial support in order to attend school - and are a working mission for their spiritual and medical health)... "Thanks to the children of FBC Wedowee for sending their VBS offering. This money was used to provide for the school needs for the two children they sponsor."

To all you out there... Now that school has begun, let's make it a perfect beginning by attending your church group programs. FBC Wedowee has youth and children activities every Wednesday evening beginning at 6:15. FBC Wedowee will also be beginning some new ADULT Wednesday night classes. 1) A "New Members Class" for new members of the church. 2) An adult in depth bible study. These will also coincide with the traditional prayer meeting. THREE options on Wednesday nights for the adults. The adult and children classes begin in September (I think), but the youth group is meeting now, every Wednesday. Come out and begin the new year with FBC. ALSO... Ava and FUM combine for a youth program. Their activities are on Sunday nights and are at each church every other week. Come out and enjoy this program as well! If you have a church activity that you would like to posted, let me know.

I have decided to update on Monday/Tuesday of each week unless we have something come up that needs to be put out immediately. Look for the updates!

There will be a prayer walk at RCHS today at 3:00. Meet in front of the Auditorium. This is not a school related function, however, it is a function related to the school. =]

I received a brief update, from Mrs. Lois Wiley, on the history of the Fourth of July Street Dance and Fireworks... I regret the error.
Donna, I don't know that it really matters but this year is the 11th year for the street dance. I started it in 1998. The July 4th after opening the bakery downtown. After I got sick Chuck Rice took it over to keep it going and had it for 8 years. I am so glad someone has chosen to keep it going.

The RCHS Cheerleaders have signed on for a new fundraiser! If you are heading to the Panama City Beach, FL area anytime this year and stay at the following Beach Resorts:

Please send up immediate prayers Mrs. Eva Camp and her family. I just spoke with Mary Kate. Mrs. Eva is in Wedowee Hospital in poor condition (in essence she is under hospice care). She is being given morphine to keep her comfortable. Today is her 96th birthday. Please pray for her to be comfortable and at peace.

Also, my little man (cousin) Thomas Musser has been given some more difficult news. His leukemia cells are not clearing his body as quickly as they would like. His remission is dragging. This is cause for concern, so they are probably going to have to go with a bone marrow transplant. (I wasn't sure who was a match for him) None of the family is a match, but they had always been told that it was relatively easy for a caucasian little boy to get a match so they weren't too concerned. Here's the kicker... Thomas has some sort of weird enzyme or something in his blood that has caused them to be unable to find a match. Can you believe that? They will try to use Ed or Lisa's (his parents - running tests soon to see who he matches best). Please pray for complete remission for this loved little man!

Congratulations to Ed and Melissa Barrett (Ed is Brenda Grant's nephew). Melissa gave birth to their son, James Edward at 9:45am on 06/24/09. He weighed 7lbs. 1 oz. Mother and baby are fine.

The 9th Annual Street Dance and Fireworks (formerly at Wedowee Citgo) will be July 5th at 7:00pm. The VENUE has been MOVED. It will be held at DP Oil at Foster's Crossroads, north of Wedowee. There will be live bands (Roger and Ryan) and food vendors. Come out and have fun!

Congratulations to Hannah Wortham and Luke Walker. They will be married on 08/08/09 at 11:00am. The Church in the Pines on Lake Martin. Hannah is the daughter of Eugene and Gail Wortham of Wedowee. Hugs to you!

The Randolph County High School Varsity Cheerleaders recently attended UCA Cheer Camp in Panama City Beach, FL. Because of the location of the camp, it is a very competitive setting with many squads present.

Our cheerleaders received several awards including: 5 Superior Ribbons (the highest award possible) on their daily evaluations, Third Place Trophy for Extreme Routine, and Third Place Trophy for Cheer.

Congratulations to all of the girls and Coach Wortham on your hard work and awards!

It's gotten difficult for me to want to continue sending out WW.

There have been numerous people tell me that they appreciate being kept up to date with the goings on in Wedowee. However, I have also had some negative feedback.

If you are talking to me, or having a convo where I am present, don't assume that I will automatically put what you say on WW.

If you want something put on WW all you have to do is tell me.

If you don't want something put on WW, you don't even have to say. Nothing will be automatically put on here without direct ok from the person. I don't do this to keep up with everyone's business. I do it because a community that communicates with each other, prays for each other, and helps each other is a much better community.

If you have any news, new baby, wedding announcement, prayer request, community related events. I will gladly put it out there for you. But, I am not going to automatically put it on here. You will have to let me know.

Got good news on my sister-in-law Robyn! The tumor is non cancerous and no sugery needed!! The Dr. said that her symptoms are not tumor related and recheck in 1 year...The heart Dr. appt June 30th. PRAISE GOD!!! I have another request.. I know of a family in our community that has no money. The husband/father abandoned them, 2 girls and mom/wife. My husband took her around last week to get help with paying her power bill which was due to be cut off that day (tuesday I think it was) The Baptist Assn. payed the bill for her. He is also going to take her back to DHR to fill out the paperwork to get on welfare. They do not have a car so mom is not even able to go look for a job. Her refrigerator went out about 4 weeks ago and because of a mass text I sent out Thursday asking if anyone knew of a free or cheap one, 4 people donated $130.00 towards getting her a used one. We went out Friday and found a nice one for $175.00. We put in the rest of what was needed and she now has one. Praise God!!! She is very thankful and appreciative of our simple act of kindness. The next bit of info is that this family has not had running water for 3 summers now.Their well went dry when the drought started. Stacy talked to Doug Sheppard and he is going to get a number for him to call and see about grants to help out the poor getting their meter placed. County water lines have already been installed on their road. The quote for the meter was $750.00. We have helped this family out alot over the past years and I had felt like I was just so tired of helping.. the next 2 sundays at church the preacher preached about helping others, especially the poor and stressed the POOR. I am asking that we as a community help this needy family. It won't be long and school supplies will be needed also. Donations can be sent to my house. For those of you who know our family, sorry for the repeat info... I am going to give a brief background.

My first cousin and husband, Lisa (daughter of my dad's sister) and Ed Musser, have three children twins Matthew and Andrew are 9. Thomas is 7 (will be 8 in August). Thomas was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphatic Leukemia) when he was 3 years old. He completed his treatment at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN about a year ago. He was scheduled for a routine visit in Memphis on July 2. However, he began to show signs of extreme bruising (which is one of the first indicators) and over the weekend he developed more signs. The docs in Johnson City, TN (St. Jude center closest to where they live in Rural Retreat, VA) initially thought he MIGHT have a virus. However, yesterday he developed a fever. Ed and Lisa knew this was not a good sign and took him directly to Memphis early. They had an appointment today at 12:00. They were given bad news.

Thomas' cancer is back. There are leukemia cells in his blood stream, and his liver and spleen are swollen. Not really sure of what goes next. Ed called my aunt and uncle and gave them the news. Lisa was unable to speak with her own parents... We did get that he will have his port put back in in the morning. Not sure what happens tonight. I do know that they do round the clock treatments at St. Jude. They already have an apartment near the hospital. I understand that they may try a bone marrow transplant. And my aunt believes the twins are a match, but she really couldn't remember at this moment.

Needless to say, our family is devastated! With Father's Day coming on strong, we were already a little in the dumps... and now this. I wish God didn't have quite so much faith in us that we could with stand all of this... That is the only way to reconcile news like this. God knows we can handle it.

Please pray specifically for a miracle for Thomas L. Musser! He is 7 years old! Please also pray for his immediate family as they begin to try and pick up their hearts once again. Pray for peace, strength, and comfort. They were such an amazing witness of Christ's Love when they were in the middle of this previously. I can't imagine. Wow... I am humbled.

"Dad is doing much better today and will hopefully get to come home Wed. He has some crackling in his left lung and they took him down for an x-ray Tues evening as a precaution. He is also running a fever and they are monitoring that. The results came back from the pancreas and liver biopsy and there was no cancer. We are so very thankful for all of the prayers that went up on his behalf. God is so good! Our family is very blessed to have so many Christian friends and family that know the importance of prayer."

I heard some really cool news the other day! Little Miss Haley Kirby served as Miss Southern Union's Rising Star for 2009. The Rising Star program is a Miss Alabama program that encourages Miss Alabama contestants to become mentors to girls ages 7-11. Haley was selected this year to serve as Kristina Goodwin's Rising Star. Kristina is from Smith's Station. Haley helped Kristina with her platform "Pet Smart" by helping with fundraisers to provide supplies for the Randolph County Animal Shelter. In addition to that, Haley got to spend the day with Kristina, other contestants,and other Rising Stars at Samford University during the Miss Alabama Pageant last week. It was a great experience for her!!! I am so proud of Haley and know that her family is! Great job Haley!!!! =}

I am making slight changes in how information gets on this blog...

I love to keep everyone updated on all of the happenings and prayer requests in Wedowee. I keep this blog because when my dad was ill I kept a blog on caringbridge.org of his progress and the other "goings on" in Wedowee. When he passed away I had numerous people come up to me and ask me to continue keeping Wedowee informed. I chose the blog method because I didn't want to continue the other format. This blog was the best avenue for me... I totally enjoy doing this because I love people and want to use my computer abilities to help others. But the biggest reason I do it is because I believe in the power of prayer. Prayer changes things. Prayer helps you feel comforted when all hope seems lost. Prayer brings communities together and unites people when nothing else can. Prayer works.

In the future I would like to tweak how I get the information received and sent out...

2 - If someone without email (or not near a computer, i.e., in the hospital) wants something on the blog, they can let me know in person or give me a call or text, or have one of their close friends or family members let me know.

I recently got a request from a friend to put a unspoken prayer request on Wedowee Words. I don't any of the details, other than it really sounded important. Please take a second out of your busy Memorial Day weekend to say a prayer.

Speaking of Memorial Day... Thank a Veteran! Your ability to do what you wish to do today is thanks to the brave men and women who fight for our individual freedoms! I personally would like to thank my husband, Robby, for his unwavering devotion to our God, Family, and Country. He was in the USN as a Search and Rescue Air Crewman (think "The Guardian"---literally!---he did exactly that!) during the time of Mohamar Khadafy's reign in the Middle East. Thanks.

I'd also like to congratulate all of our county graduates! Pray for them as they are on their many different senior trips. Congratulations on all of your achievements!

VBS Announcements:

First Baptist Wedowee will be hosting its annual Vacation Bible School June 1st - June 5th from 8:30 - 11:30. The theme is "Boomerang Express-It all come back to Jesus"... It is set in the Australian Outback and looks to be an exciting time! The church will be using it's new Family Life Center to the fullest! Come out and Enjoy!

Vacation Bible School is also going on at Jordan's Chapel Methodist Church during the same week June 1st - June 5th from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 pm each night. It may be a long drive for some of you but be sure the kids will enjoy it. The theme this year is Crocodile Dock. They would love for your children to attend. The ones who attended last year had a ball. If you can't make arrangements to get them there let me know and I can put you in contact with someone who might be able work some kind of transportation arrangement out. Jordan's Chapel is also having a VBS kickoff on Saturday May 30th from 2:00 - 4:00 and there will be water activities. (slip n slide and water balloons - so the children will get wet...)!

Take your children to both events! What more could you want? Children who have been exposed to Jesus' message.... AND worn out from all of the fun! =] Guaranteed to help you both get a good night's sleep!

Sutton and I went to see Melinda Lipham tonight... she looked really good! Tired, but good. She has probably had a series of small strokes, with this one being the biggest. The docs are trying to dissolve it with blood thinners and IV fluids. If she has a good night, she may go home tomorrow with follow ups with the cardiologists and neurologists. Please pray for continued recovery for her and good health. I tried to post something earlier, but with the crazy weather and lightening, I was having problems. I decided today to just wait until after we saw her. Hayle and Cody were hanging out with her. Tommy came in a little later. To add insult to injury, Melinda's grandmother passed away on Friday. Tonight, Tommy and Andy had been to the visitation in Franklin, Ga. Andy and his wife are going to the funeral tomorrow. Pray for their family as they go through all of this.

Tommy also told me that he thought Russell Robinson had returned home today. I hope he is doing well.

I bumped into Sandra (Baldwin) Phibbs. She said that Forest was doing much better. He is exercising, and recovering well.

Received a email from Ken and Judy Conaway. They will be traveling for the next few weeks. I wish safe travels for them. Blessings as you minister on the different Campers on Mission... God Speed... their itinerary is as follows...
So long for about 9 weeks as Judy and I leave for our New England trip this Sunday. We will work 2 different Campers on Mission projects 6 of the weeks and vacation and/or travel the other 3. We may also work the New Hampshire NASCAR race but have not yet heard positive confirmation on that. So many of you will be glad to know my outbound e-mails will be greatly diminished until after July 20th.

Leave Sunday May 17th. En route we plan to see Independence Hall etc in Philadelphia PA, Sub Base Museum at New London CT, Whaling Museum in Mystic CT. Also, if we can hook up we plan to meet Sandra's Cochran's daughter Carol in Providence, RI and then tour Boston, MA and Kennebunkport ME. Any other stuff that hits our fancy as time permits.
We plan to arrive in Farmington Maine by Sunday May 31st and Depart June 20th

If it works out, we have also agreed to volunteer at the New Hampshire Raceway Ministries with Motor Racing Outreach for the NASCAR event Thursday June 25th to Sunday the 28th. We have not yet heard positive confirmation. Camp Maranatha is only 16 miles from the speedway. We would pull the RV over to the speedway early Thursday and return during the race Sunday.

Depart Camp Maranatha Saturday July 11th. On the way home plan to visit a friend’s home in northern Vermont and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. We will be home around July 18th to 20th

As I am sure most of you have already heard of the passing of Mr. Ed Creed. He passed on Friday, May 8, 2009. His services are... visitation at tonight from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Benefield Funeral Home. His funeral is tomorrow at Iduma Church at 2:00pm. I know that you were surprised when I didn't put his information on here quicker, but Mr. Creed has such a large family that I didn't want to run the risk of anyone learning of his passing on here, instead of from a family member. Sorry for the delay, just wanted to give the family time to adjust. Pray for this sweet family in the coming days, and especially after all of their support goes home. Sharon Daniel spent the evening in Wedowee Hospital being observed because of chest pains that wouldn't go away. Ricky seemed to think it might be her MVP flaring up and causing the discomfort, but they didn't want to take any chances. If all went smoothly, she should be going home today.

I received a update on Jim Morris from Mrs. Deb, it reads as follows:
Praise the Lord, Jim is improving daily! With improved energy, he has walked almost 1/4 mile on the second day. His body continues to "wake up" which is helping to reduce the edema (swelling) in hands, arms, legs, and feet. That, in turn, helps with the rehab of his left foot and hand which seemed to bear the brunt of the trauma. He is going to Wedowee Clinic to regulate his dose of Coumadin. We will have followup appointments at Kirklin Clinic later this month and the first of June with both his surgeons. Thank you for the prayers and we ask you to continue to keep us in your prayers during his recovery period.

Forrest Phibbs had a scare today. He and Tommy Camp were visiting Lovvorn and Tim Holmes earlier today. Forrest's heart decided it needed a rest. They called 911, but TC ended up taking him to Wedowee Hospital in the car. His heart rate was very low so they transferred him to Opelika. Cardiologist, Dr. Rhodes, saw him and is doing a cath in the morning and potentially placing a pacemaker. Please pray for he and Sandra to have a peaceful night's rest and a smooth procedure.

Since Mrs. June Thackston was in charge of rounding up contestants for the cardboard boat race at Chimney Cove on Memorial Day weekend, I have (kinda) taken on that responsibility for her (since her car accident). If you know of someone who comes to the lake for recreation and would be interested in doing this, please feel free to forward this info. Sooo....

CALLING ALL RACERS!!!!!
We need 8 teams of two to three people to race cardboard boats in beautiful Lake Wedowee on Memorial Day weekend in front of Chimney Cove (very convenient to town)! All of the cardboard is supplied at Nortons Flooring, the entrance fees have been paid, and there is money in an account at Chimney Cove to pay for additional supplies. All you have to do is go pick things up, turn your receipt in to Jim Barton at Chimney Cove (within reason... sealer, tape, etc) and decorate your boat! The instructions for boat building are on the Chimney Cove website at www.chimney-cove.com. Just imagine... you proclaiming to the world -well, ok wedowee- what your cause is (through your decorations on your boat!).

Speaking of June Thackston... I received a email update from Patt High, it reads as follows:
Thought I'd let u know how June is doing...in a word....GREAT
I stayed with June from Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon, and gave Will a break
so he could catch up his affairs and hopefully a good night's rest. He is still hurting too,
but they can't help his ouchies (collarbone and rib fractures, and aching back);
only time can do that. He won't take time to go to the chiropractor cuz he wants to stay
near June.
June got moved to the UAB Spain Wallace spinal rehab unit on Tuesday,
I forget which room; but she's not talking on the phone yet. She is an excellent
patient and tries very hard. Of course the halo makes it difficult to get comfortable
on a bed, and the surgery on her lower back added to that challenge.
Her therapy started ystd. with them testing her skills; She's walking 40' now
with a walker, can brush her teeth, have assistance to the toilet, and mostly dress herself.
I'm amazed she can put on shoes and socks, especially. The goal is to lower her pain
meds gradually and meet a balance so she can do 4 hours of rehab a day and rest well
at night.
She is eager to work hard so she can go home with a degree of independence.
Healing is so much better in ur own home. No word yet on when she will be home,
but I'm guessing this weekend.
Her faith is strong and she says thanks for all the prayers that continue to support her
as she recovers.
PS: if you see her with a patch on one eye; her double vision should get better over time.
But meanwhile the patch helps her keep her gait balanced so she can walk and rehab better.

Come out and support this wonderful fundraiser and support our local dancers as well. It is a wonderful show with entertainment for everyone! Drop by The Dance Center on Main to pick up your tickets. They are only $5.00 a piece. The Saturday night show is SOLD OUT...

I am behind the times, but I have recently learned that Jim Gunnels was having some tests run on his heart. Pray for a positive result on these tests and for him to be back up to his normal self soon.

Elizabeth said that there has not been any recent change with Mr. Creed. The staph infection has cleared from his bloodstream, but it remains in his heart. Fervent prayers are needed for improved health for him. Pray for Mrs. Betty and his family as they just have to wait for improvement. They are also still waiting on the trach/peg tube... Hopefully if he gets those in place, they will begin to see some more improvements.

On a wonderful note, little miss Isabella is doing GREAT! She is so adorable! Her counts are continuing to climb and the docs have given her a two week appointment instead of one week! Yay!!!!

Survivor, Jim Morris... etc

It's that time again... First Baptist Church Wedowee Youth will be participating in the Summer of Survival!!! June 23 - 27. "Survivor", as we call, it involves spiritual, physical, and mental challenges. Picture Survivor (the TV show) with challenges geared to encourage a closer bond with God, each other, and nature. We are sticking a little closer to home this year. Tim and Suzy Coe have graciously offered us the use of their farm land, "Wildcat Creek". We are hoping that keeping it closer to home will allow more parents and volunteers to help the adult chaperones pull off a great event. We need lots of volunteers to help in running challenges. It would involve a few hours of your time, everything will be organized for you, you just need to show up and run the show (for that particular challenge). It is open to all youth in our area. HOWEVER.... there are limited spaces available for the youth so sign up your youth soon! Deadline to sign up is June 7th. There is a $25.00 one time fee to help cover the costs of pulling off such a large "production". Also, there is a parent/volunteer helper meeting tonight at 7:00pm in the youth room at First Baptist Wedowee. The youth room is in our new Family Life Center. Come check what all of the excitement is about! (We also have a photo album from last year's Survivor if you would like to SEE how it works).

Haley Kirby is doing a fundraiser at Wedowee Middle School to help with items desperately needed by the Randolph County Animal Shelter. Every morning through May 11th Haley will be collecting items on the shelter's "needful things list" at the entrance to Wedowee Middle School. Most of the items needed aren't very expensive: rubbing alcohol, peroxide, lysol, bleach, paper clips, etc. Every bit helps!! Haley really loves animals and thinks this is a great opportunity for the students at WMS. It gives the kids an opportunity to learn about the value of community service and helps homeless animals in the process.

Wonderful news from Jim and Deb Morris! I received a email from Deb, it reads as follows:
We are home with the blessings of God, family and friends smiling upon us. Jim has a long road to go but recovery should be complete barring any other complications. We have been to the clinic to get blood tested today and are back home. We cannot say it enough...."There's no place like home!"

RCHS NEWS:
School release time will be 12:30 on May 21st and May 22nd.

The Mock Wedding and Reception is Friday, May 8th at 7:00 pm. Admission will be $2.00 for ages 0-8 and $5.00 for 9 and older.

There will be football practice today, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Varsity cheer practice for the new 2009-10 cheerleaders will be on Wednesday, May 6th from 4:00-6:00 pm in the new gym.

There are prom picture/video DVD’s are on sale in Mrs. Pate’s room for $5.00. We also have extra glasses, and t-shirts available.

Ed Creed is still holding his own. They believe that all of his troubles began with a staph infection that has remained dormant for many, many years. He is going to have some procedures this week. Pray for swift healing and peace for this family.

I recently received a email from Patt High with updates on Jim Morris and June Thackston... it follows...
I saw Jim and Deb Morris at UAB on Friday. I ran into them by chance, as Jim was getting a wheelchair tour by Deb; a treat for him after all this time in 'lockdown'. He is making good progress and has got a twinkle in his eyes. They were hoping for some good test results that would allow Jim to come home soon. (As a side note from me ~Donna~... on my way home from school today I saw big yellow bows all around Jim and Deb's house, sooooo hopefully he is either already home, or coming home soon.)

June Thackston is getting her pain under control which is helping her appetite and giving her strength to heal. She sat up in a chair for an hour on Saturday, and she has also walked some. She is in an isolation unit (#9309, north), as her white blood count is very low and they are wary of infection brought in by visitors. So please hold off visiting til she's stronger. I know she would love a card from her well wishers; if you send it to her home at

it won't get lost if she comes home soon.

I also received a email update on Gary Cockrall. It reads as follows:
Linda and Gary Cockrall are home. He is feeling better and walking again. Doctors believe he has had a stroke. Also, his adrenal glands had stopped working causing his sodium to be depleted and he is now taking sodium tablets. He may return in the morning for a full round of chemo, if his blood work shows his body is strong enough. Prayer is working.

Gary Cockrall has been in the emergency room since morning. (Birmingham) He cannot talk or walk. So decisions are being made about what to do. He did have part of a chemo treatment this week, but of course it was too much for his condition. Please be in prayer for this family who live in Wright Way Estates. I just spoke with Kim Watkins, she said that June Thackston tolerated the surgery well. She is in a halo to keep her neck stable because the part where her neck was injured was pressing on her spinal column. However, the docs told Will that she was well and that he could go back to see her about 3:00 today. They placed some rods, and such in and told Will that she would probably have to come back in about 6 months to have some things removed. I am so thankful that she was not injured further!

Great news from Elizabeth on little miss Isabella! Her platelet counts are climbing so she is doing a lot better! However, Mr. Creed is still about the same... so PRAISE the LORD for the wonderful progress from little miss B, but pray for improved health for Mr. Creed!

Jim Morris continues to run a fever. The docs are still working on it. Pray for improved health for him also!

Don't Forget about the Wedowee Middle School Second Annual Lake Wedowee Tour of Homes... Saturday, May 2. 9:00am- 3:00pm. The tour begins at Chimney Cove Clubhouse. The proceeds benefit Wedowee Middle School. These teachers, staff, and friends have put a LOT of effort into this tour! Come out and support them!

Continue to keep the Thackstons in your prayers. Will is really sore, but ok. June, on the other hand, has broken areas in her neck, back, and sternum. She can move her hands and legs, so thankfully she is not paralyzed. This morning I spoke with Kim Watkins who is a close friend and also works for them. She told me that June is awaiting surgery. The doctor who is needed was not in town yesterday, so they are waiting for him to get back in town to proceed. Some of you may not know, but June has already had extensive, multiple surgeries on her neck and back (over the past few years, before the wreck). She has really had a rough time. They think the airbag is what did most of the damage to her. She has also been battling a form of leukemia. She has recently finished her chemo. MAN!!!! When it rains it pours... She was transferred from a Pell City hospital to UAB. According to her son she is in a LOT of pain. I will keep you updated as I get info.

Add Pam Starkey's hubby, Marty Starkey, and her Daddy to the prayer list. Marty goes for his second epidural on the 30th. So far the first one has not helped much. Her Daddy also has to have epidurals for his upper back. They still don't have an appt. for him yet and he is in pain. Be praying that he will be OK for the Saturday honor that Wedowee is giving him.

The Tour of Homes will showcase homes on our own Lake Wedowee. The tour will be held on Saturday, May 2nd from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. It will begin at the Chimney Cove clubhouse located on the left, 1\2 mile north of Wedowee on Hwy 431 just before the bridge. There, you will be given your map of the homes. On the tour you will see 5-6 homes tastefully decorated for the season.

Will and June Thackston

Just received a call that Will and June Thackston have been in a serious auto accident on I-20 near Eastaboga. They were headed to B'ham for a doctor's appt for June.

Initial word is that June has a possible broken sternum, is having trouble breathing, and is in pretty serious condition. Will seems to be ok physically, but he is terribly worried about June. The person in the other car is said to have passed away. Please pray for them as they are going through a very stressful situation right now. June is presently in St. Vincent's/St. Clair in Pell City (not positive about the name of the hospital). They are expecting her to be airlifted to B'ham.

I will keep you posted as soon as I hear something.

Jane Israel, Ed Creed....and more

Mrs. Jane Israel is having surgery today to have a pace maker put in. I understand she is in good spirits and is hoping to have a smooth recovery. Dick and Cliff have gone to Tuscaloosa to be with her during the surgery. Pray for a smooth surgery and a quick, easy recovery.

Mr. Ed Creed is stable - as of last night. He no longer has a fever, so he is making some strides in improvement. Continue to pray for him and his family.

Belinda Wood had surgery on April 23rd. Not sure of the details, other than she requested prayer.

Jim Morris is struggling with fluid build-up, a fever, and low BP. The docs are trying to decide when/if he needs another procedure to drain fluid. Please pray for he and Deb as they go down this long recovery road.

I hope Jim Hall is recovering nicely!

Little Miss Isabella Creed is doing great... she has a check up appointment today.

Robby's mom, Liz Phillips, will be having surgery on May 20th to repair a torn rotator cuff. She is having to get some medical clearances and trying to tie up loose ends so she can relax during her recovery. She is extremely nervous because she doesn't handle taking medications well. Please pray for her to have a smooth surgery with no anxiety and a quick and easy recovery.

The Wedowee Area Ladies Community Chorus presented a wonderful performance yesterday at First Methodist Wedowee... If you haven't been to one of their concerts, you really should try for the next one. They are a talented group of ladies!

RCHS News:

Prom Leadout went well this past Saturday for RCHS and Woodland. All of the couples were dressed beautifully and seemed to be having a lot of fun! Great job juniors!

FCCLA meeting on Wednesday, April 29th after school in Mrs. Monroe’s room!

Any senior that has not picked up a Kiwanis Scholarship need to do so sometime today. Wedowee Kiwanis Scholarships are due back to Mrs. Langley by Wednesday morning.

The Randolph County Training School Scholarship Foundation applications should be filled out online as soon as possible. Mrs. Langley has information (all of which she passed out earlier) to anyone interested.

The girls’ softball team will play Ohatchee tomorrow at 4:00 at French-Hammond Park.

I know that you all already know how goofy I am... but please let me explain. We have two sets of friends named Rhonda and Jim (Barton and Hall). My mom was out of town with Rhonda Barton last week so I had her on my brain.

When I got Rhonda Hall's email requesting prayer for Jim because he had broken his left ankle and would be having surgery on it Thursday (today), I didn't even look at the last name and my crazy brain just went right to Rhonda and Jim Barton.... I asked my mom if she knew anything about it, she told me that it was really Jim Barton's MOM who had broken her foot on Sunday... What a coincidence to have two broken legs with Rhonda and Jim... My mom just thought that I'd nutted up and gotten the info confused... well I DID... Just the wrong set of Rhonda and Jim's!

I just spoke with Rhonda Hall. She said that Jim Hall was out of surgery but that his BP was elevated due to pain. She asked to please pray for relief in the pain and for his BP to return to a normal level so they will be released.

I am so sorry about all of the confusion!

Jim Morris is having some difficulties. Mrs. Deb called Gail Wortham and specifically asked for prayer because his heart rate is elevated. Pray now...

Also, I just spoke with Elizabeth. Mr. Creed has not had any major changes over the past few days. He is having help with his breathing via a ventilator, and has a feeding tube. He is stable, with these things assisting him so he can heal properly. The docs did a CAT scan yesterday and have discovered that he only had one stroke. Praise the Lord, one is better than two - any day! The docs are keeping him sedated so he can expend all of his energies into healing his body. The docs are keeping the family posted and have told them that Mr. Creed's healing process could be a long road.... but they are still keeping up hope that he will have a complete recovery. The family requests your prayers for complete healing for him, and peace for the family.

Also, Jim Barton's mom broke her left ankle on Saturday. She is having surgery tomorrow. Pray for complete healing for her also.

Most of you have heard, I am sure, that Ed Creed is in Trinity Medical Center after having suffered a heart attack and some strokes. Jim Morris is presently in surgery to remove fluid from around his heart. My previous info was slightly incorrect as the previous fluid was on the side of his lung. He will be in CICU tonight and hopefully moved to a regular room tommorrow (If all goes well!). They are hoping that this is the last set back. Pray for healing! Jim Morris appears to be doing a lot better. As of yesterday he was sitting up. The chest tube was doing well... Pray for him to have complete healing with comfort.

ALSO!!!! Little Miss Isabella Ruth Creed has made the trip home!!! They are at home enjoying their family being together! Pray for her to continue to have increased platelet counts.... here's the clincher though... because of the decreased platelet levels, Isabella is more prone to infections and other bugs that might not be a problem for us. Let's all help protect that little girl and love her from afar for a bit. Once she has adjusted to her home, and a new routine... I'm sure it will be ok for visits after a few weeks. I know... it is killing me!!!! I want to get me hands on that little munchkin so badly... but... we don't want her to get sick... Eddie and Elizabeth didn't ask me to say all of this, I kinda took the liberties on my on... but I know that we all want her to stay healthy and strong! Yay that she is home! God is good!

Pray for safe travels for all of the families "out and about" this week. Randolph County Schools are on Spring Break this week.

The Wedowee Area Ladies Chorus will present a concert of spirituals on Sunday afternoon, April 26th, at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of Wedowee First United Methodist Church. This will be the 6th concert performed by the Ladies Chorus. There is no charge to attend, and the public is invited. Following the performance there will be a reception sponsored by the East Alabama Arts Society.

Brenda Boone will have her gallbladder removed tomorrow at UAB. Pray a quick, smooth recovery for her.

WMS/Elementary:
Randolph County Board of Education just received the green light from the Justice Department for the new building! The Randolph County Board of Education will now begin the process of administering the construction! This will (I think) combine the K-5 on the WMS campus. Hopefully the process won't be too taxing on the the staff, and the transition will be a smooth one. Yay!

RCHS News:
Junior High volleyball tryouts will be Thursday, April 9th at 3:00 pm in the new gym. Varsity volleyball tryouts will be Monday, April 13th. I (Mrs. Giddens) will call you to the gym when it is time.

The Miss Randolph County School Pageant will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 2:00 pm. This pageant is open to students at RCHS Elementary, Wedowee Middle School and Randolph County High School students: Entry fee is $25.00. Get an application from Robyn Wortham or a varsity cheerleader!

Jim Morris, retired forestry insructor at RRCTC, is in surgery at UAB for a "split aorta". Those are the words the doctor used. He also has a blood clot in his left leg that will require attention when the aorta is repaired. The surgery is extremely serious. Deb, their daughter Debbie, and Jim's brother, Glenn, were with him last night when he left the hospital. He was transferred from Opelika to UAB about 11:00 last night.

Lori Beth Adamson from RockMills was killed in a car wreck on Highway 22 yesterday. The news report said she was 18. Please keep her family in your prayers, also.

Please also be in prayer for Lindsey Williams. She is a teacher at Woodland. She had a new baby two weeks ago. The baby is well. Lindsey was hospitalized last monday with a severe headache and increased BP. I understand that she is doing better, but she still needs our prayers.

Baby Isabella Creed has been off of oxygen and on room air for several days now. This was a huge hurdle in the steps to going home... What a blessing!

Lake Wedowee Air Junkies announces:
"The 3rd annual Lake Wedowee Ski Tournament"

Chimney Cove
Date: 7/11 (if it is thunder/lightening we will do it 7/18)
Time: 8am to 3pm

The ski meet is principally a fundraiser for the Randolph County Animal Shelter in Wedowee.

Last year we pulled 43 riders !

Wakeboard and ski competitions are based on ability not age.
It is a sanctioned USA Waterski grassroots event.

Trophies for first 3 finishers in each event. Last year we gave out 24 trophies, plus rider grab bags and special awards for Crowd Wow, 'Best' Crash, Extreme Air, and Best in Show

Exhibition riders in wakekite, and hydrofoil. There will be a raffle and auction for seaplane rides and other surprise entertainment. Yummy food is available all day, plus other vendors. (We have space for more.)

On 5/23-5/25 Chimney Cove is hosting the 2nd annual Boat Show on all 3 days of the Memorial Day weekend. Lots to do for the whole family while viewing boats and equipment; food, games, sand castle building contest and more !

During the Boat Show The Randolph County Animal Shelter will host two events:

1. RCAS Paddling 4 Paws Cardboard Boat Regatta
Saturday, 5/23, 1pm:

At home you build a boat out of cardboard, duct tape and other approved materials, and paddle it in the 100 yards (if your boat lasts that long). Minimum age 8 years.
Win plaques (w/photo of you and your boat) such as the Titanic Award for the most spectacular sinking.

First things first... I hear that there is some controversy swirling around the judging of the Wedowee Hospital Womanless Beauty Pageant. I understand that there is a letter to the editor in the Randolph Leader from one Harold Harmon. I have not personally read the letter, but plan to as soon as I can get my hands on a paper. I hate controversy in a small town. =]

RCHS NEWS:
The Elementary Spring Fling, which is sponsored by the PTO, is this Saturday, March 28th in the auditorium. It starts at 12 o’clock noon with an Easter Egg Hunt and will end around 2:00 pm. Come out and support the PTO and your school!!!

The First Baptist Wedowee will host it's annual Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, April, 11 at 5pm at Kiwanis Park, on the baseball field.

The following is a letter that an acquaintance's daughter sent to the USDA. She has been called to speak before a panel at the USDA... wow, how cool would this be?!?! Why can't we do something like this around here? We have multiple resources for farming, and everyone is always talking about getting the kids to eat more healthy foods. This could work here in Randolph County, and it would be AMAZING!!! It would also save our school system's money as a lot of the food would be grown right at the school! Salad bar at school!?!?! Yum!

My name is Bailey Damiani and I am 9 years old. When I was 5 years old, my mom, dad, brothers and I moved to Portland, Oregon. I started kindergarten at Edwards Elementary School. This was my first time working in a school garden. At the end of the school year, my school closed and I went to Abernethy Elementary. In first grade my garden at school was called “Garden of Wonders.” I began to study about farmers, plants, nutrition, worms, and soil. Learning these things made me excited to learn more things about the garden. In second grade I started working in the garden. I pulled weeds, planted vegetables and flowers, and made green tea. Planting the fruits and vegetables made me want to try them. I was taught which plants I could eat. At my school, my lunchroom was called “Abernethy Café.” I even had a chef named James Fowler. Chef James always made the best food. My favorite part about lunch was the salad bar, which consisted of some of our fresh fruit and vegetables. Chef James would take the vegetable of the month and teach us about it and where it came from. He would let us taste every flavor of the food. Chef James would even do cooking classes with the older kids. My favorite memory of Chef James is when he made “Kale Chips.” He taught us a better choice than potato chips could be the kale chips. At my end of the year carnival at Abernethy, Chef James talked us into having fresh salsa and guacamole, instead of another sugary snack.Last year my family moved back to Atlanta, Georgia. I was sad to leave my friends and garden. When my mom told me I was moving to Atlanta I told her I wanted to go to a school with a garden. I miss being able to work in the garden but most of all; I miss eating the vegetable I grew. I feel providing fresh food at lunch helps kids live a healthier life. Please consider the farm to school programs and how this can help my community (and world).Thank you for reading this note.

The Wedowee Middle School PTO would like to wish you a wonderful spring. We are the parent/teacher organization of Wedowee Middle School, the 4th through 6th grade school in Wedowee, Alabama. Our school is located just off Alabama Highway 48 and is only minutes away from the beautiful Lake Wedowee. Currently, our school serves approximately 210 students from the city of Wedowee and the surrounding areas of Randolph County.

We are excited to announce our 2nd Annual Lake Wedowee Tour of Homes. This year’s Tour of Homes will showcase five gorgeous homes on Saturday, May 2nd from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Tickets will be $15.00 in advance or $20.00 on the day of the event. If you’ve ever wanted to see some of the area’s most breathtaking homes, then you are sure to enjoy this tour.

The proceeds from the tour will benefit our school by providing funding to assist with several projects including an improved intercom system, new bleachers for our gym, enhanced classroom identification, and possibly a new school sign.

Chris Hammond is in Afghanistan with MLB. He had a loooooooong flight to get there, and has requested your prayers for a safe journey for all and a blessing to be shared with the troops. Thank goodness for christian men in todays turmoil.

I have a personal praise to fill you in on... our little man, Sutton, joined the famiy of God on Sunday. So from our revival at First Baptist we have 5 new members with two of those being professions of faith. I'm not sure of the baptism date, but I am so excited for our young people.

April Bonner's daughter is having some health problems, she's had a recent large amount of weight lose, and is a cancer survivor. Please pray that the doctors will know where to begin with her diagnosis.

Guy Dunnavant will be discussing rehab this week. Pray for a swift recovery for him.

Baby Bella is doing a lot better. She is out of the incubator. They are able to dress her and put all of those pretty little clothes on her... she has an oxygen tube in her nose for precautionary purposes. They are still helping her to develop better eating skills, and hoping for her blood oxygen levels to improve. Eddie and Elizabeth are able to hold her and "get their hands on her" any time they want to now, so I'm sure Bella is enjoying that (as well as the rest of the family). Yay!!!! I am so excited for them! I can't wait to hold that little munchkin! =]

Congratulations to the RCHS baseball team. They placed 2nd in the Annual County Tourny. Handley (4A school) placed first. Also, congratulations to Brady Phillips for hitting a "out of the park" homerun!!!! THAT was VERY exciting!!!! It was his first career "over the fence" homerun.

Congratulations on two new babies in our area...

Steven and Ashley (Williams) Lines had Madilin Faye Lines last night. Madilin weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces and was 19" long, she also has a head full of hair. The proud grandparents are Doug and Kira Williams. Sorry, I'm not sure of the Lines grandparents names...

Please pray for the Tripp Skipper family. He is the pastor of a church in Wadley. They have recently had a baby prematurely. The baby weighs about 3 pounds. That's all the details I know, so just keep them in your prayers.

Guy Dunnavant had a heart cath today, and Junior Yates is recovering from his heart cath 2 days ago.

Ron Hyche is recovering from his hernia surgery. He is thinking he will return to music in about a week.

Marty Starkey will be having a Mylogram on monday to determine the course of treatment for his severe upper back pain. Please pray for guidance for the doctors.

First Baptist Wedowee concluded their Revival last night with a wonderful occasion. Congratualtions to Hannah Kirby in her decision to be saved and baptisted... we are all proud for you and are praying for you as you begin your walk with the Lord... yay!

* Let's do what we Wedoweeans (is that a word =]) do best and rally around and send extra joy to them. It is hard to be away from home, even when you have a precious joy like Isabella to occupy your time. They are doing well, just a still a little tired and missing Olivia.

Pam Traylor Johnson spent the evening in the ER in Wedowee. She is on her third round of bronchitis, ear infections, upper respiratory... etc. She is VERY sick this go 'round, and really frustrated (to the point of tears). She's on breathing treatments now, more antibiotics, more shots... you name it. Pray for complete healing for her.

Heard that Larry Colley was in Wedowee this weekend, and looking well... that's good to hear.

I would like to commend Mrs. Monroe and her class for a job well done last night. They catered and served the Lake Wedowee Property Owners Association's annual meeting. The food was delicious, but the service was even better. Seventh and Eighth grade students were tending to the needs of the diners. Again... job well done! Also the Wedowee Ladies Community Chorus was the entertainment for the evening. They sang some spirituals, as well as retro main stream pop. Excellent job ladies!

My name is Charley Norton. My brother Tom and I own Nortons Flooring Outlet here in Wedowee Al.

Earlier today we learned that one of our employees, Cody Bozeman, was found dead at his home. Details aren't really important right now, what is important is his young wife, Candi, and their four year old daughter. Please extend your prayers to them and their families.

This family is in real need of any financial help that you can offer. Cody was 22 years old and had no insurance. The funeral will cost approximately $4000.00 for the minimal service plus the cost of the plot. We are not sure at this point if the family has one purchased for him. I can’t imagine what intense grief Candi is going through. Tom, myself, and all the Nortons Flooring family , two of which are Cody’s cousins, are in shock.

We are asking that everyone take this family into their hearts and give what they can, however small, to take this financial burden away from Candi. We hope that her debt for funeral expenses can be paid in full and have money in the bank to help her get back on her feet. This is the time for our church community to come together and share Gods love and offerings to someone who desperately needs it. We have contacted Terry Sparks at Benfield Funeral home and have worked out an arrangement. Lavenia Swann is having a good recovery from her surgery. She will be going to the doc on the 27th(?) and will need to make some tough decisions. Please pray for her, Will, and Taylor. She looked REALLY good and are encouraged by everyone's support.

Janice Bowen's father passed away recently, I'm sorry... I am not sure of his name. His visitation is tonight at Benefield's Wedoweee with his services being tomorrow. Pray for peace.

A update about baby Bella from Kerry Moore:

"Just spoke with Eddie. Elizabeth was back visiting with Bella. They are all doing well, including Bella! He said they are resting well, I know we are all so thankful for that. Bella's white blood count was down by 20000 yesterday afternoon....although he doesn't know what the magic number is.....that is still a good sign that her little body is fighting off something. They may be able to move over to the Ronald McDonald house this afternoon or tomorrow as they have been staying in a hotel across the street...by the way, Will Swann was also staying in this same hotel and mentioned to me through FB that he saw Eddie and Elizabeth getting off the elevator and that they seemed to be in high spirits (as Lavenia was having her surgery at UAB, also...I'm so glad Lavenia is doing so well). Eddie is speculating that they will be able to come home in a matter of DAYS! Ain't God good, y'all! We serve a MIGHTY and AWESOME God!"

I forgot to put Chris Hammond on our prayer list...

Chris is in Guatemala on a mission trip. He is coming home a week from Sunday. They request your prayers for his safety and for him to be able to spread God's love to as many people as possible.

He is also going to Afghanistan for the last two weeks of March. Lynne told me that their children are anxious about this. They are concerned about him being in a Black Hawk helicopter and then going to a war torn area. He is going with a group of MLB Players who will be there to lift the spirits of the soldiers serving our country and protecting our freedom. Chris is very humble about his "fame", but he definitely wants to lift those soldiers spirits. Pray again for his safety!

Also, I received a call to let me know that Lavenia Swann came through surgery safely. The docs believe that they have removed all of the cancer! Pray for quick healing and comfort throughout her recovery.

Oh No! I have a retraction!!!! I am SO SORRY to the RUTH Bailey family for any confusion! Apparently it is SARA Bailey, from Woodland, who had the stroke and has been transferred to Chattanooga. Again, I apologize for the error...

Also... Elizabeth called and gave me a quick update on little miss Bella... She is doing so much better. They still don't really have any test results on the blood work, but the hematologist is keeping a close eye on her. She is OFF of the ventilator and they were able to feed her a little bit of a bottle. What a blessing! They are also assured that she doesn't have any problems with her little heart so they are so excited about that. Elizabeth sounded really good and they wanted you all to know how grateful they are for all of your prayers and support. They have a joy, a beautiful new baby girl joy. It's a tired joy... never the less... joy!

Wesley told Robby today that Larry Wortham came home today. Hopefully he is feeling better!

Also, I have just learned that Rick Butler passed away last night. Please pray for his family.

From Brooke (Graham) Bayliss: "Scott, my husband, was involved in a head on collision with a tractor Saturday morning. He was on his way to a class in Anniston. He escaped with only minor injuries and the driver of the tractor was uninjured. His truck was totalled and there is no other explanation other than that God was truly with him. He is REALLY sore but he is already feeling better. He is scheduled to be back at work on Wednesday. He isn't used to being the patient in the back of the ambulance. :) We're just thankful he's alive and not severely injured. The man on the tractor had just lost his daughter right before the accident happened. I'm not sure what his name is but please keep that family in your prayers."

Mike and Connie Parker's son and daughter-in-law have been in Colorado for several weeks awaiting the birth of their adoptive son. Ellis Warren Parker was born several days ago. Just spoke with one tired mommy... Elizabeth was released this morning from Regional Medical Center in Anniston. They have seen baby Isabella , but they haven't been able to hold her yet since she is in a incubator. She is still on a ventilator (although I believe it is on assist mode-which means that she breathes on her own, and the vent kicks on only when she needs it). Her white blood counts are low, her red blood counts are high and her platlets are low. The docs are doing tests to determine why. Her heart is healthy, she had a 50/50 chance of having a heart condition, they are all VERY thankful for good health there. She is still bloated, but has "used" several diapers up (front and back) so they are hoping for improvement on that front also. Elizabeth said that Isabella would probably be at UAB and maybe transferred to Children's for a total time in the hospital of 1 -2 weeks. Eddie, Elizabeth, and Mrs. Betty Creed are staying in a hotel near the hospital. They is there resting for tonight. Joe and Mary have the girls and are back in Wedowee.

They are really going through a tumultuous time... please pray for peace and patience for their whole family. I am sure that they are filled with many mixed emotions...

Ruth Bailey has been transferred to Chattanooga. She has had a series of strokes.

Jennifer Newkirk's nephew, Jaden, had a snowmobile accident over the weekend, in Colorado.

Still don't know any news regarding Larry Wortham. If you have any information, would you please let me know so I can update.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The children's department is hosting a hot dog supper on March 28th. The cost is $5, you get a hotdog, chips, and a drink. They are also having the children bake cakes (and asking for cake donations) to have a cake auction. The auctioneers will be Mark Prestridge and Brad Laney. The proceeds will benefit Crucified Life Ministries where it will be applied to the tuition of students in El Salvador. The children raised enough money during VBS this summer to sponsor 3 children during this school year. They are hoping to continue that sponsorship. Come out, buy tickets, bake a cake... whatever you can do. Our kids are so proud when they are able to help other children their age!

SHHHHHH! ...On Sunday, March 29th, First Baptist Church Wedowee will host a reception in honor of Mrs. Naomi Bradley aka "NayNay". She has served in the children's department teaching Sunday School for over 50 years! Most of us have been taught by her, or know someone who has... The reception is a SURPRISE so help us keep this a secret from her, but come out and celebrate this precious lady!

Schools is out for a SNOW DAY tomorrow. No school for the Randolph County School System on Monday, March 2nd!

Little Miss Isabella Ruth Creed was born a few hours ago, shortly before 6:00pm. She is having some medical difficulties. She is presently intubated and on a ventilator - meaning she can't or isn't breathing on her own right now, she also has a feeding tube. The biggest concern is that her little belly is swollen. The docs are afraid that she has some sort of blockage. She has been sent to UAB as a precaution. Please keep this precious family in your prayers. As I am sure you can understand, they are all on an emotional roller coaster. Eddie and his parents went to Birmingham with baby Bella, Elizabeth's dad and step-mom are with her, and Olivia is with Mary. They are exhausted and really need our support. As soon as I get further information, I will pass it on.

Also.... Mr. Larry Wortham was taken to the ER this afternoon with severe stomach pains. His BP and heart rate were elevated, but they believe that to have been caused from the pain he is experiencing. However, due to his recent heart problems, they are not taking any chances. He is having further tests, and I will also update on him when I hear something more.

A quick update on a new prayer request...

Lavenia Swann has recently been diagnosed with stage 1 Endometrial Cancer. She will be having a radical hysterectomy soon. I haven't heard the date yet. Please pray for complete removal of the cancer, and that she won't need radiation or chemotherapy... love you, Bean!

Also... Stacy Roundtree is recovering nicely from a hernia repair. I saw him yesterday at school and he looks like he has lost some weight, but ok other than that. He is not scheduled to be back to work until 03/09... hope his healing continues.

Kelly White Almaroad had baby Halle Olivia at 1:01 pm on Friday. She weighed 5 lbs. 14 oz and is 18.9 inches long. She is beautiful! Both mom and baby are doing great. (from Stephanie White Bolt). Congratulations to the White and Almaroad families!!!

Please pray for Mr. George Harrell. He is in the hospital in Atlanta. I spoke with Mrs. Harriet this evening. She said that he has fluid around his heart, and a severe bladder infection. They are not sure if he has had a heart attack. His doctor will be in to see him in the morning. He is stable, but very ill. Mrs. Harriet was quite upset... please keep them all in your prayers.

The youth finally made it home around 5:00. Onas and Barbara were towed to the interstate, then made up a ton of ground. They arrived about 45 minutes after us. Thanks for all of the prayers! Again, another big thank you goes out to all of the parents, and church members who sent food and made donations!

Again, we had a great time. No injuries other than minor scrapes. We almost had a catastrophe when Jill had a small altercation with a ski lift... it was funny, but it could have really been bad! We are very thankful that we all got home without anything major. Somehow we did manage to have 3 kids that were sick with some sort of stomach something... not sure, but I hope the rest of us steered clear. They are better now.

We are in the bus. We have BEEN in the bus for a little over 3 hours. It has taken us that long to travel about 1.5 hours distance...

We woke up to blizzard type conditions (at least by Alabama standards!).f Several inches of snow had fallen over night with more coming down every second. After some careful maneuvers, and ALL of the boys in the back of Onas' truck, we managed to get out of our lodge driveway. Getting to the interstate was a different story.

The bus and the van were slipping and sliding a bit, but managed. Onas was bringing up the rear in his truck, which is also towing the trailer with all of our supplies and luggage. He got stuck... There is a pretty significant hill just as we turned out of the lodge area. We turned around and again sent all of the boys out into the snow to stand in the back of the truck. No luck... The Beckley, WV police showed up... (I wish you could have seen his face when he rounded the trailer, only to look into the eyes of 10 teenage boys STANDING PERFECTLY STILL in the truck). Priceless moment! After several attempts, it was decided that the bus and van would go ahead and leave Barbara, Onas, and luggage behind. They were going to wait for the scrapers and salters to clear the roads a little, then try it...

That was all about 3 hours ago. They are still sitting there. The decision was finally made to call a tow truck to tow them about 7 miles to the interstate (or until they can be under their own power) ...whichever comes first.

Please pray for safety for us. It has been really dicey. We are almost to TN. The snow has stopped falling, but the roads and surroundings still have snow and ice on them. A tense driving situation to say the least.

We have had a wonderful trip. It snowed the first day of skiing. The kids loved that! They stayed up most of the night, every night, then slept till about 9, then started again. We had some really good kids with us, minimal trouble, and great skiing weather. The kids really bonded well. They also received well the lessons that were presented.

We had kids from Randolph County High School, Woodland High School, and Wadley High School. All of which are active members of our youth group. We also had a couple of kids from First Methodist. All in all - a great time was had by all!

Thank you to all of the chaperones who were willing to use their work vacation times to come and supervise this trip. We couldn't have done it without any one of you. Thanks to Brian and Jill Phillips for all of their pre-planning prep work and all around youth supervision/instigation =]. David and Leisa Benefield for driving and helping with meal prep and crowd control. Onas and Barbara Brand for driving, meal prep and lesson planning/presentation. Mark and Robin Prestridge for driving, meal prep, and crowd control. And Robby and Donna Phillips for driving, meal prep, and crowd control. Thanks also to all of the fabulous youth for being such great human beings and inspiring all of us chaperones to want to be better grown-ups.

The plan of salvation was shared every night through the Bible study. Should one of your youth have questions, please feel free to call any one of us. The ultimate goal is for all of us to be shredding the slopes together in heaven one day! =]

Thanks again for all of the prayers, we will need it! It's snowing again...

Well... presently I am sitting in the bus from First Baptist Church of Wedowee with 20 youth... 200 ipods, 312 cell phones, 8 laptops, 16 Nintendo DS, and a whole lotta sass... (not really those amounts, but it feels like it!)

We are having fun, but I hope we don't have an electronics glitch, their might be a mutiny! We are about half way to our destination. We stopped to eat lunch in Cleveland, TN. Bless her heart, Emma Prestridge (who is in the smaller van) has had some pretty severe motion sickness. We tried to get her some Dramamine, but she was unable to swallow the pill. We've had to stop several times for that poor little baby to throw up... Pray for her little stomach to settle.... AND that it REALLY is car sickness and not a virus.... 35 people in the SAME HOUSE with astomach virus running rampant... you do the math! =] Anyway, other than poor little Emma, we are having a pleasant journey.

I said to Mrs. Deb the other day, "it takes a village to raise up youth"--she said something very wise, "I think we should change that saying to 'It takes a church to raise children/youth'" Thanks Mrs. Deb for perspective...

I understand that Lovvorn Holmes had to be taken back to Opelika yesterday to have some more fluid drained. He has really had a turn of poor health and is very frail. Please pray for comfort for him and peace for his family. I love you Mr. Lovvorn.

Tim Holmes had his other surgery last week. If I understand correctly, they took a portion of his lower arm bone and created a jaw bone from that. Sounds painful to me!

Doc Johnson (Greg Johnson's dad) has been receiving treatments for cancer. He has been struggling with the tiredness and other symptoms that go along with that. Blessings to him.

Ralph and Shirley Watkins daughter has only two more treatments left in her fight against cancer. Shirley was excited to have her visiting this weekend. Pray for healing and strength.

Blessings to the Ogden and Williams families as they try to begin a "new normal" in the wake of their loved one's passing. We are glad that Sam Ogden was able to make the trip with us... Also, Richard Pike (He is Amanda {Williams-haha Richard} Pike's husband) is still on track to come home from Iraq on 04/01...yay!

BTW... Margy Israel made it back from her adventures in KY. Thanks Margy for all you did to help out people while they were in need.

Sadly, Mrs. Dean Williams passed away last night. She has been through a lot, with her loving family by her side.

Arrangements aren't finalized yet, but tentatively scheduled for visitation Friday night at Benefield's Wedowee, with the funeral on Saturday at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Wedowee.

Please keep this precious family in your prayers... Mr. Faye, Doug, Kira, Ashley, and Amanda... and the rest of her family.

Mrs. Eva Camp fell last week and has been in Wedowee Hospital. They haven't found anything broken so far, but she is having some pain in her upper back that they are checking into. Mrs. Camp and her family are also discussing her future living arrangements. Nursing home vs. Assisted Living... please pray for them as they transition and make the necessary changes.

Margy Israel left this morning to travel to Paducah, KY. She will be with a team from the State of Alabama providing medical aid to the people affected by the ice storms/power outages. She doesn't have cell phone coverage so, no contact with us. They will be in federally maintained portable housing/medical facilities (tents)... whew... I know they are going to be cold! She should be returning next Friday 02/13.

Brad Laney's Uncle, Roger Laney, passed away this morning. Please be in prayer for this family. I will update on services as soon as I get the info...

Also, Karen Culverhouse's father, Frank Hyles, has had a number of strokes and is very ill. He has a trach (has since been removed from the venitlator, but still has the trach), and a feeding tube. He is in Birmingham.

News that Jimmy Hall is back in Wedowee. He will be in Wedowee Hospital for 21 days of therapy.

Mrs. Carolyn Daniel has busted out of the hospital (; ]) . She is home receiving lite home health care.

Also, Mrs. Curtis Noles continues to have deteriorated health.

A PRAISE!!!! Yay!!!! I rarely get the good news sent to me... I love to report blessings.

Brenda Boone's mother was recently diagnosed cancer. After surgery and removal of the cancerous area and ten lymph nodes, she has been given a clean bill of health. The cancer was completely contained and had not moved into the lymph nodes!!!! Praise God! =]

RCHS NEWS:

Prayer...

Please be in prayer for Jimmy Hall. He is the dad of Jim Hall, and the husband of Louise Hall. He began having some extreme issues with numbness in his extremeties. Trouble swallowing, eating, etc... a lot of the syptoms of ALS/Lou Gehrig's. As you can imagine, this was not a welcome thought. However , the good news is that he has Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Not exactly great, but better than the alternative. He is in Stringfellow Hospital, room 318, receiving treatment. It is possible to completely recover, but it is a looooooong process. Please keep this sweet family in your prayers.

Larry Wortham has also been in the hospital. He recently came home and is recovering from having several heart stints placed. Please pray for their whole family.

In other news... The Youth from First Baptist (and surrounding churches) are going to WV for their annual ski retreat. There is a signup sheet on the door beside the Sunday School office for food items needed. We are trying to make this trip as cost effective for everyone, so we really need your help... Also, the youth have "First Baptist Wedowee" Shirts for sale. Please see one of the youth, or Brian Phillips, or myself. The proceeds go directly to the youth fund. The youth are also planning their annual Valentine Banquet. This years Banquet will have a "Hee Haw" theme. It is looking like a fun time, so be sure to get your tickets soon! Brad Laney's uncle, Roger Laney is in UAB hospital right now. Doctors tried to remove some fluid around his heart yesterday however, when they opened him the cancer was worse than they had expected. They were unable to remove any fluid from around his heart or in his lungs. Unfortunately they could not give him any relief. I'm not sure of what the next steps will be but please pray for him and the family for strength and peace.

I had a nice chat with Sylvia Grant yesterday. I wasn't aware that Mr. Gene had been having some medical problems. Evidently, Gene had a heart attack on 12/12/08. He was then informed that 4 of the 5 blockages (that he had repaired about 10 years ago) were now blocked again. To add insult to injury, there is nothing they can do now to correct the problem. He is above the age range for a heart transplant, so there are limiting options for him. He is being evaluated for a procedure/appliance that has been used in Germany. Also, he is having some hardening of the vein in his left arm. The vein is very hard to the touch and is causing him some pain. They were told that it is due to some infection from the IV's. Needless to say, Mr. Gene and his family are going through a lot right now, and trying to make decisions that will affect his live. Please be in prayer for this family. Mrs. Sylvia said she wanted everyone praying... She also said the Mr. Gene was in very good spirits and joking and being very sweet. Thank goodness for God's mercies for Mr. Gene, right? I am glad he is feeling well, emotionally.

I hear that Mrs. Brenda Payne is battling kidney stones. I spoke with Heather yesterday (I talked a lot yesterday, didn't I?) she told me that Brenda (AKA Sally) will have a procdure on Tuesday to blast those babies out of there. Pray for comfort for her until then.

RCHS stuff:
The Mr. and Miss Valentine Pageant will be Saturday, February 28th. The pageant will begin at 2:00 pm and will be held in the auditorium. Ages of participant will be from birth to 18 years old. Applications may be picked up in the high school office, Hair Designs, WM Grocery and the Dance Center of Main.

Well... I guess it's time to get back on the horse... after a brief restful holiday time.

It was a bitter sweet time for us and a number of other families as we experienced our first holiday without a loved one. My family was thankful in knowing that daddy spent Christmas with Jesus... how fun will that be! =] Be in prayer for all of the families who lost a loved one over the holidays.

Robin Prestridge's friend Tim Townsend is not doing good. His cancer is still there and he can't walk still. He was put back into UAB on Christmas Eve and will be going to Spain Rehab either today or tomorrow. Please say a prayer for him.

Also, Robin Prestridge's cousins, Andy and Jan Marie Thrower, just found out that their 18 month old son Anderson has leukemenia. He is having a spinal tap procedure sometime this week to let them know what type and what to expect. Please be in special prayer for this family... the mom, Jan Marie, has lupus, and their oldest son has Autism. They are under an incredible about of stress.

Tim Holmes is home and recovering. From what I understand, he will need another surgery, but is healing well. He was at church Sunday. Mr. Lovvorn Holmes looked really good.

Prom fees were due October 15th. The last day to pay prom fees without an additional charge is January 15th. After Thursday, January 15th a $5.00 per day late fee will be added. There will be a Junior Class meeting to discuss the prom on Wednesday, January 21st at 2:50 in Room 114 (Mrs. Pate’s room). All juniors who have cleared their prom fees are eligible to attend. SENIORS FEES ARE DUE Tuesday, February 10th.

The cookbooks are in!! They are $15 for one; $25 for two. See Mrs. Hoggle. The proceeds from this cookbook will go to make improvements on our football stadium.

I spoke with Amanda Williams this week... she (as we all are) are hoping the plans for Richard's return home will be April 1, 2009. Originally he was to be there for a year... Please pray with them that all of the plans are firmed up and he returns safely as newly scheduled! (Hi Richard! Merry Christmas to you and all of your buddies!).

Miraculously... Tim Holmes has had a very smooth recovery so far. The docs in B'ham are looking to move him to a regular room soon.

Tim Holmes

OK... here's what I know so far...

Tim was in surgery for 7 hours the night of the accident. The doctors were able to begin the reconstruction process. They used titanium parts to rebuild his jaw. He is alert. He has a tracheostomy, a ventilator, and a feeding tube (I really thought I was through reporting on those things! Kinda brings out some vietnam flashbacks! yuck!). Anyway... I digress... Due to the extensive damage to his lower jaw/chin/mouth/neck/chest he will need numerous surgeries to get everything working right.

His family went to see him. They said that the docs told them that "it just wasn't Tim's time". His injuries should have ended things. However, Dr. Atkins , and a Nurse Anesthetist were at Wedowee Hospital when they brought Tim in. Because of Southern Ambulance Transport, Dr. Atkins, the NA, Ricky Daniel, Jennifer Yates, Heather Stitcher, Amanda Williams, Laurie Van DerMark, Liesa Benefield... and a whole host of others (there were SOOOOO many professionals working on him, and I'm sorry I don't know everyone's names!)... they were able to stabilize him enough to get him onto the helicopter and out to UAB. The Holmes family is so grateful to everyone!

The family has been told by the doctors at UAB that Tim should be able to recover from his injuries, however... it is going to be a LONG haul! He was alert enough when his family went to see him that he could do a little communication with his hands. His face is so swollen his eyes are swollen shut. What they understood from him is that he remembers EVERYTHING! He remembers falling, the ER, the helicopter ride, etc... whoa!!!!

Be in prayer for Tim Holmes and the Holmes family. As I am sure that most of you have heard...

Tim Holmes was severely injured in a shooting accident yesterday. He was life flighted to UAB. The most recent word (through one of his aunts) is that his injuries, while not life threatening, are SEVERE. He will require numerous reconstructive surgeries. Again, pray for this sweet family as they are also still mourning the recent loss of Mrs. Betty.

A note from June Thackston regarding the Nelson family...

Friday, a car accident took the life of Jamar Nelson.

Timothy, Darico, and Robert were also injured. Robert was life flighted to Birmingham. We met with Timothy and his parents at Wedowee Hospital. Timothy was released. His crying for Jamar was heart breaking. Mr. Nelson's brother was found dead at 1:00 P.M. on the same day. That is where Mr. Nelson and his older brother were when they got the news about the accident. Loosing a son and a brother in one day has got to take a toll.

Please be in fervent prayer for this family, and also for the students of RCHS... Darico is in the 7th grade, Timothy in the 8th, Robert in the 9th, and Jamar was in the 10th. The entire school has been affected by the loss of this precious young man.

Services for Jamar are Tuesday, December 9th at 1:00pm. Weathers Heights Church. The church across the (side street) from Wedowee Middle School playground.

Baby Rebecca Ann Dunn

Congratulations to Eric and Katy (Coe) Dunn of Texas. Katy gave birth last night to a healthy baby girl. Rebecca Ann Dunn weighed 7 lbs 1 oz and was 20 inches long. The proud grandparents are Tim and Suzy Coe and The Dunn's (of Texas)!!!! Blessings to you all.

A prayer request from Julie Colley Thompson:
I have just learned from a classmate of mine, Peggy Lambert Bowden, that her only child, Beth Bowden, (mid to late 20's) who is a nurse at RMC in Anniston, Alabama, has cancer. She request that we put her on our prayer list. We know God CAN and WILL heal if it is His will. She had a cancerous tumor on her small intestine that had grown thru the intestinal wall. They did a biopsy of the liver and lymph nodes which were negative. Praise the Lord for that! And removed 16-21 inches of her small intestines and appendix. She will be having chem and/or radiation as soon as possible. Please keep Beth and her mom and dad, Peggy and Bruce on your prayer list. Thanks and have a great day! Julie Colley Thompson

A short note from Wanda Langley regarding her brother, Allen Taylor...

I want to say thank you so much for all of your prayers that you have all been helping us with over the last two weeks or so. We went in for another appointment yesterday with the oncologist. The doctor went over the most recent test results from last week that were to determine the extent and spread of the cancer from the lungs. There were 2 spots on the brain (1 on the right and the other on the left side) the type of cancer that Allen has usually presents itself in clusters in the brain. These spots were not in cluster form and the doctors wonder if this is cancer or perhaps something related to something else (such as a stroke). There was also a spot on the adrenal gland. These were the only areas that looked suspicious at this time. We were told that they did not know if these spots were cancerous or not at this time. We have also made arrangements for a second opinion andwill be going for this appointment soon. Because of the aggressive natureof the cancer Allen has we cannot wait for a second opinion to start the chemotherapy. He is starting chemo today and will be receiving chemo forthe next three days. They will wait 21 days and do another session of chemo.After the 21 days we will have another PET and MRI to check on the status ofthe spots that were found. We were told that at that time they would truly know if those areas were cancerous or not by the reaction to the chemo. We feel much better at this point and feel truly blessed that we have had this report. I know that our prayers are working and I want you all to know how much I appreciate all of your concern and care but especially for all ofyour wonderful and meaningful prayers that you have said for Allen and our family. Please continue to pray for him and us during this time. I am truly blessed to work with such wonderful people. I love you all. Wanda

His visitation is tonight at Benefield Funeral Home from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.

His services are tomorrow at 11:00am at Ava Methodist Church.

Mr. Lovvorn Holmes fell as he was leaving church on Sunday morning. I saw him in WM Grocery yesterday... WHOA!!! He is black and blue all over the left side of his face and his left arm. He said he didn't have any broken bones... thank goodness! He also said he was going to hibernate for a while so he could recover. Please pray for this dear sweet man!

I am sure I have forgotten someone, as it seems I heard of some other prayer requests. However, I cannot recall them right now... if you know of someone in need of prayers... please send me an e-mail and I will get it out.

RE: Mr. Albert Lee Holloway

Per Mr. Ken Conaway of the A & M Fire Dept. - Mr. and Mrs. Holloway's home was not a total loss. There was significant damage to the den and master, and heavy smoke damage to the rest of the house. I have heard that the home will require extensive repairs before they can move back in... please pray for this family.

The Holloway's sizes are:
Mr. Holloway: XL - shirt, 36/33 - pants
Mrs. Holloway: M - shirt and 7 Junior Long - pants

Thanks to everyone who has helped them. They have been offered a sofa and love seat, a washer, and a dishwasher. If you have items to donate to the Holloway family, please bring them to Wedowee Middle School. Everything will go directly to the Holloways.
